About

My work is often expressive and loose, yet detail oriented and on the macabre side of the spectrum. I explore the effects of mark-making and the potential of the unconscious doodle when incorporated into a larger project. Abstraction and dark humor are consistent aspects in my personal work in illustration. The mediums I gravitate towards are painting, pen and ink, and printmaking.

I have an interest in developing characters and narratives with my illustration, and embracing the quirkiness of my figure drawing to emphasize humor and sarcasm. I enjoy the physical process of creating work and focus my personal projects on subjects such as monsters, nature, and the figure.

Poetry, music, and martial arts are important to me and effect my artwork as well. One of my latest works, Miscreation is a graphic novel. The characters were inspired by my martial arts background and act as personifications of different emotions. The story depicts two families’ struggles with a mad scientist who creates deadly monsters and unleashes them in a suburban neighborhood. The first book of this series is 60 pages long, and I have completed 20 of these as a demo book. The format is based on an 8-panel grid, drawn first in pencil, then ink, then scanned into Photoshop, where graytones are added.

I aspire to create work that people will connect to on a deeper psychological level.
